Registered Psychologist (in Supervised Practice)

Melissa has been a registered psychologist in supervised practice since 2021; she is currently supervised by Dr. Tammy Whitlock,       C. Psych.  Previously, Melissa had been a registered social worker since 2014. She holds both a Doctor of Philosophy degree and Master of Arts degree in School and Applied Child Psychology from Western University, and a Master of Education degree in Counselling from the University of Ottawa.

 

Melissa’s professional experience includes work with children in the school board setting and public-sector victim services work with individuals and families. Melissa uses evidence-based cognitive-behavioural and brief solution-focused approaches to counselling.

 

Melissa assists children to identify and build on their strengths and abilities to elevate their self-perception and confidence. However, children are part of a larger family unit and rely on their caregivers for support. Melissa emphasizes the role of relationships when working with children and emphasizes perspective-taking and collaborative problem-solving approaches to family conflict.
